Show Max File Version

Click Renderwow menu → Show Max File Version.

After clicking this menu, a 3ds Max scene file selection dialog appears. Select the correct 3ds Max file, and a pop-up window will display the 3ds Max version of that file. This tool is only available in 3ds Max 2013 and later versions.
